What NOT to WEAR...

Ever have one of those days where you get completely ready and then decide to go and check your attire out in the mirror; only to find out that what you have on is a disaster of epic proportions...that would be me today!

Sometimes the outfit just looked A LOT better in your mind than it actually does on your person, but by the time you decide to go and verify you've already spent the time ironing, you are running late, and you just don't want to put the effort into changing...

So you walk out the door KNOWING FULL WELL that what you have on is going to bug the living daylights out of you ALL DAY LONG!

Something tells me that cropped black pants and a horizontal black/white stripe shirt should not be worn on someone who is 5'3" unless you are trying to make yourself look like and umpa lumpa!

I mean, can I just sit in my cubicle all day and hide?

I keep waiting for Clinton and Stacey to pop out from around the corner and ask me if I am an escaped convict or trying out for the next installment of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory :)

I just want to go to the BEACH!

When did it become so difficult to plan a family vacation? For the last two summers my family has gone to Emerald Isle in August & as we learned last year - you have to be quick to book or you'll end up with everyone's leftovers...still very nice places, but you may have to sacrifice an amenity or two.

The first year I did really well with booking...the house was plenty big enough & it had it's own pool...everyone was happy or so I like to believe...

Last year, I seemingly let my brother down with the house I booked (I do want to point out that it was probably May before I could get my family to commit to a week - for many reasons). The house was a bit smaller, it was a duplex, and it had no pool...why do you need your own private pool when at the beach you ask? DON'T GET ME STARTED :) Josh complained A LOT to put it mildly and I promised myself that we would book very early for 2008 in an effort to please him.

So I started off this year - uh - about two-three weeks ago with the search & it seems that I created an issue myself. I found a bunch of houses in the community we like. Many of which were considerably larger, had a pool, a hot tub, a pool table OR SOMETHING that would tickle Josh's fancy...

Now here is the clincher...I found a house that at the time i.e. three weeks ago, was available and did allow PETS...I sent the email to my mom with all of the houses & it still took my parents and brother a bit to get back to me...I ask, I remind...everyone is busy...

My DAD catches wind that one of the houses allows PETS and the decision was made - that was the house...FORGET THE POOL JOSH! You see, we had to board the dogs last summer and they truly are dads best friends and he was so beside himself worrying over them all was sweet & I have to add that I think everyone knows how obsessed I am with Bailee!

ANYWAY, so when I go to book the house that allows is no longer available! My mom kindly tells me last night that if we don't find a house that allows pets - dad is probably not going to the beach (more than likely he is OK with this - he is not a big beach fan, BUT I sincerely want him there)! Had he not known of the possibility of taking the dogs - this may all be different...

I am close to my wits end trying to find something, BUT there is a glimmer of hope - a house with a pool that allows pets, but the dates conflict with a race that is honoring my cousin who passed in a mining accident last stay tuned...I think this entry is now LONG enough :)

As soon as it is booked I'm adding one of the fun countdown to vacation things on here...I so need a break!

Because I can't stop laughing about this...

And just in case you were not able to catch the clip on Ellen's website when I posted it on Monday - here is the youtube link to The Hawaii Chair episode...

You have to watch this...HAVE TO!

What is a day without laughter? Love me

Every girl should own a hat...

Not just any old baseball style cap, but a really girly & fun hat...I suggest multiple ones for different seasons too :)

After a HUGE ROLLER COASTER RIDE over the course of last Thursday - Friday that went something like this:

Message from my Realtor's Office Thurs: An agent in the office has a client that would like to come out and see your house on Sunday at 10AM.

My response Thurs after listening to the message: YAYAYAY! Must clean house...cancel all plans for Friday night and Saturday! Email about the exciting news and the need to clean.

(Friday, I dress like a total BUM for work and do not my wash hair - pull back in ponytail...who cares - I will be cleaning tonight - YAY!)

Message from my Realtor Fri 3PM: I'm very excited about the showing on Sunday. Please make sure you have the flyer's out. The client has seen the outside already, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

My response Fri 4PM after listening to the message: OMG! This is wonderful; they have already seen the outside so they are familiar with the cliff they must drive up! Email again with the even better news!

Message from my Realtor's Office Fri 5PM: Amy, I'm sorry, but there has been a mix-up and the client is interested in another home, NOT YOURS!

My response Fri 5PM after hearing this news: !@#$%^&&*()*&^!@#$%$^*%(#@(&$(&#!!!!

Now at 6PM on Friday night with cancelled plans and dirty pony tail hair that is now beyond unsuitable for public places...I drive home - mad as a hornet only get get a welcomed phone call from my brother and his girlfriend inviting me to go to a nice dinner with them and OH BTW they will be at my house 20 minutes after I get home to pick me time to shower!!!

This is where the girlie hat came in extremely handy to go out to a relaxing & enjoyable dinner with great company!

PS - I had a wonderful time & reminded myself that everything happens for a reason :)

The Hawaii Chair - HYSTERICAL!

This was on Ellen today; she actually had the chair and tried it out on her show...

Go to ELLEN and watch the video of the day (TODAY):

I am literally in tears right now laughing at this concept...

The Tree of Life

This is a picture of my artwork designed and completed by my wonderfully talented friend Pandora. She is absolutely amazing and I could not be any more pleased.

The Tree of Life has many, many different meanings and interpretations.

To me the Tree of Life is a representation of how everything in the universe is connected through God; the beauty of this life and the purpose of each take care of and nourish our mind, body, and spirit always & to pay it forward whenever possible...

For me it certainly symbolizes how our life's journey and purpose continually changes and evolves...happiness is a not something you chase, it is something that you come to realize from within and from that realization you begin to value everything...every single breath...and you know that it is all in divine order...

Peace, love, and grace :)

Half Off Deals

I received a very cool email from my friend Sarah today referring friends to Half Off, which is the Internets largest provider of half-off gift certificates:

It is pretty cool for local deals and when you are traveling...might make you try a new place out :)

There is a field on the right side to input your address and it will return results of all locations in your area that are offering discounts AND there is also a place listing brew pubs and micro-breweries...pretty neat!

On a much better musical note...

Another co-worker recommended Damien Rice to me today and once again - simply amazing talent...I bought the CD at lunch...what can I say I will always be a sucker for sappy music!?!?!?

Check him out on youtube too :)

The Blower's Daughter

The particular song rose to fame because of the movie Closer.

The CD has a song on it called "Amie" - ha - the spelling may not be perfect, but I like any song with my name :)

A Sphincter Says What?

I'm certain that I'm not alone in this, but have you ever noticed that a song will come on a top 20 station and you hear it the first time or maybe the first 10 times and ask yourself "what on earth is this crap?"

BUT shortly thereafter something will mis-fire in your brain and all of a sudden you like the song OR Ellen may dance to it, you may hear it when you are out somewhere, or you just get tired of changing the radio every time it comes on.

Well that is what happened to me with the Flo Rida song called Lo...I know, I know...put me in time out please!

In all honesty, I now actually enjoy hearing "Lo"...apparently it has been popular in Miami forever, or so I was told, when I heard it hanging out at the Tap Room in Reston back in that time, hating the song, I told myself that I didn't care about what was popular in Miami if is sounded this ridiculous!

I questioned the main line to the song many times "Apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur" and wanted to know what on earth apple bottom jeans are. Clearly a sign that I am no longer hip...I won't even try to describe to you the image that came to mind...not even sure that I can, BUT with the help of a co-workers email (that I won't share) it all became clear and now I must admit that I feel very confused about my music taste...if you can call stuff like this music?

The following is courtesy of Apple Bottom Jeans

1. P.(aP-pAl Baw-tEm j-Eens) Fashionable denim for women with voluptuous, curvaceous posteriors. 2. Jean wear for women, usually characterized by apple shaped pockets that raise your rockets.

In all honesty, I don't know how I could have expected any more from a group called "Flo Rida" (apparently someone missed the day in geography class when everyone learned how to spell FLORIDA?) !

Please watch this (from Michael B's Blog):

My dear friend, with a heart that is just SO big, posted the following text and link on her blog...please take a few minutes out of your day for this!

"Check this video out, please!! Five For Fighting, how I LOVE them!, is donating money for Autism Speaks every time this video is played.

(Just click on the above link, it'll take you to the video... Turn up your sound, too.)"

Hefty, Hefty Cinch Sak

Can we talk about how much I hate slips...the undergarment? I mean, what an absolutely horrible and constricting piece of clothing!

I am wearing this "jumper" today with tights and oh by the way, the jumper is not lined...I HATE when my tights stick to my dress, ergo I decided to slap on a slip this morning...CLEARLY the worst decision of the week by far!

Seriously, my waist feels like the top of a trash bag that someone has yanked on to the point where you can no longer see down in the bag! The Hefty, Hefty Cinch Sak commercial is playing over and over in this head of mine.

BONUS: tonight I have class so I get to feel this way until at least 10PM - (YAY!!!) - no going straight home and tossing my uncomfortable clothes to the side and trading them for my uber comfy pajama's this evening!!!

Aren't they just so cute?

I'm not speeding I'm qualifying!!!

GO GIANTS!!! What? Did I really just say that?

So somewhere?? tucked DEEP down inside I honestly do feel bad that the GB Packers lost last night. Anyone that was around me during the game, would contest the statement I just made based on the extreme joy I took in their loss to the NY Giants ~ in one hell of a nail biter! Let's just say that I don't normally hug people after NFL football games unless my Skins won!!!

After following The Pack for most of this season, it truly would have been awesome to see Brett "The Hottie" Favre go up against Tom Brady in the Super Bowl...maybe next year think Favre (PS- why is his name spelled that way?? That riddle kept my brain occupied for at least three games this year! :)) would go out of the NFL on an interception pass? Really - I just can't see that happening! His talent far outweighs any one play or the other, so that is not what I'm trying to say here...ANYWAY!

A TINY SIDE NOTE: Football is on the way out for a bit, but NASCAR is back in less than one month people! Get qualifying - hehehehehe :) February 17, 2008 is the magic day of return!

You know what they say ~ You can take the girl out of the country, but good luck getting the country out of the girl!

The Ellen Show

If you have a Tivo or a DVR, I highly recommend taping The Ellen Show...she is absolutely hysterical.

My BFF talked to me about the show for months and I finally promised her that I would tape it and I have been addicted ever since. I get home from work, make something for din-din, roll up to my bedroom and turn on the DVR...seriously though, I ain't got much else going on!

It is like a dose of sunshine filled therapy and laughter! She cracks me up :)

Anyway, there was an INCREDIBLE artist named Joshua Radin on her show this week & here is the youtube clip of his performance...I instantly fell in love with his sound!

I hope you enjoy the artist and the show as much as I do...

It's Time for Some IDOL!

Ok, so I have been virtually MIA all week due to a WONDERFUL little bug that I came down with in Sunday night (SO MUCH FUN - let me tell ya...I don't wish it on anyone...sorry Pandora!), but somehow I have managed to watch IDOL this week...

Last night just made me remember my all time favorite IDOL tryout and it was from last season...I found the clip on youtube and if you need a laugh, I highly recommend checking it out!

Do you remember Xcentric? The PANTHER guy?

I do kind of feel bad for laughing at some of the poor people trying out... I have to share my favorite one SO FAR from this year is:

Bless his little heart...he has such a sweet spirit, BUT not a sweet voice :)

Swinging all alone - big girl style!

An overdue shout out...

To my wonderful, supportive, positive, optimistic, comforting, charismatic, charming, loving, adorable, Elton John loving cousin Jude in Raleigh w/ Stinky (still sorry about the Doritos incident) ~ this post is all for you and all about you!!!

I appreciate, more than you will ever know, your joining the world of text messaging and the many, many joyous notes that you send me...they are just always so uplifting (WINK, WINK)!

I hope you have fun this weekend...keep pulse on the need for a check up from the neck up...take your pills, stay away from John Barleycorn, keep it on the down low, and don't over do it sugar!

Of course I am posting this because I want to...not because he was complaining about never being discussed on my BLOG :)

Pics courtesy of my trip to VA BEACH to visit him in August before he moved yet again! He is singing TINY DANCER in the top one - hahaha!

The Four Amigas

As promised here is a pic from the girls night out last Saturday & I think I took this self-portrait of us...BONUS, fromt this angle, my head looks even larger than it usually does - hahaha!

It got to the point that this one guy offered to take a picture of us every time he saw the camera come out...I guess he got tired of watching us STRUGGLE to take the self shots! (I think that is his balding head in the background - super sweet fella!)

Seriously though, it was hard enough to coordinate the four of us getting together to go out on a Saturday night - let alone getting four girls to take a picture that we all agreed we "liked" ourselves in! This is PRICELESS!

Thanks Kate for letting us use your camera all night!

I am trying to NOT make this recommendation thing a trend; however, it is taking over...I feel compelled to share the things I love with ya'll!

An email from a friend today made me think of sharing my two favorite albums right now...

If you like country at all, Taylor Swift is absolutely incredible! This adorable litte star is so amazlingly talented & she has a gift for song writing; I highly advise you to check it out...every song is great!

My favorite track is one of her slow songs called, Cold As You. It is a song about trying to make someone care for you & one line says "and you come away with a great little story of a mess of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you" ~ so eloquently stated!

The other album is the new Angels and Airwaves called I Empire; it is also wonderful from beginning to end! For those of you that are unfamiliar with this group, one of the band members used to be in Blink 182...believe it or not, it is chalk full of love songs!

Do not buy the jeans...

I repeat - do not buy the jeans!

My friend Kim just informed me that the company is not an approved retailer.

My apologies to all; I did buy from them before!!! Oh well :)

The best nail file in the world...FileMate™

This nail file ROCKS!

Again props to my BFF for finding it first, but anyway I loved hers so much and could NEVER find it in the store, so she got me one for Christmas.

It is by TWEEZERMAN and it has a cute little case, which keeps everything else in your purse safe - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this item!!!

I will be re-odering when the time comes :)

Kick me when I'm already down...

So...HAPPY MUNDAY...gotta love seeing an email like the following, going out to the majority of your office in regards to the current college bowl game series...note to self - DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN FUTURE OFFICE POOLS RELATED TO SPORTS OF ANY NATURE!

"Wow. Amy deserves a prize. Do you know what the odds are that someone would actually pick 24 out of 31 LOSERS?

Next year, I’m going with the opposite of Amy’s picks :)

Mark P.
Group Vice President"
Um, seriously thouhg - is it time to go home yet?

The BEST top coat ever

So I am going to make product recommendations too. I always detest painting my nails b/c it is guaranteed that by the time I get out of the shower and finish getting ready, they will be messed up i.e. chipped, smudged, etc...NOT ANY MORE! Ladies you have to try this...I bought it at Trade Secret by recommendation from my BFF :) It is the best $10 you will ever spend for making a home paint job LAST and LAST - hahaha!

Seche Vite
Dry Fast Top CoatSeche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat is acknowledged as the world's finest top coat. Its patented formula allows it to penetrate through the nail lacquer to the base coat forming a single solid coating over the nail plate for a much more durable finish which is guaranteed not to yellow. Seche Vite is unmatched as a top coat leaving the nail silky feeling, stronger, more durable, absolutely will not chip and creates the highest gloss of any product on the market today. Apply thickly, get a nice bead on the end of the brush, then set softly down on the first nail painted and watch how Seche Vite flows over the wet nail polish self levels and will not drag or streak the underlying manicure. It takes time to master the application and when perfected it is possible to apply in only three strokes...keep trying. Seche Vite will naturally thicken so make sure to keep the neck of the bottle clean and tight at all times and if it gets stringy add a few drops of Seche Restore and roll the bottle slowly adding additional drops until consistency is fully restored.

Christmas all year...I've figured it out!

I LOVE SHOPPING ONLINE! There was somewhat of a Hansel and Gretel trail of packages waiting for me on the mountain last night; the first was in the mailbox, the second was sitting inside the garage, and the third was inside the door of the house (trust me it is not like this every day).

The excitement that built up for being able to open the packages with each step I took was VERY INTENSE; I literally stopped, looked at Bailee, and said - this is like Christmas all year & in case you were wondering, of course he nodded and agreed with me! Even though I knew what was in each package there was an indescribable anticipation that I can only equate to a December 25th type of experience!

It really became clear because I had a couple small shopping bags from my trip to the mall yesterday & I could have cared less about diving into the bags; I mean, I had just seen those things a few hours earlier!!! They could not have changed that much in the trunk of my car!

My BFF and I had a horrific shopping experience last Saturday at Tyson's; let's just say that it took us an hour (no exaggeration here) to get from the exit ramp on I-495 to a parking space in the Nordstorm's garage & half of that hour was spent trying to NAVIGATE through the parking garage without jumping out of the car and opening a can of whoop-$$$ on the other drivers - people were literally making two lanes going in one direction in a garage. Can you say CLUSTER?

All of the driving around was basically just for "fun" b/c everything that I wanted to buy, I could not find at Pentagon City or Tyson's, which is why there were so many packages from online shopping delivered to my house this week :)

If this stress can be avoided...why not??? I'd rather pay shipping...

GO SKIN's...I think they can, I think they can...toot toooot!

PS - the luck may not have been there for MY HOKIE-POKEY's last night, but there is always hope left for the Redskin's tomorrow afternoon! Keep your fingers crossed or whatever you believe is worthwhile for a win...
I finally figured out where and when to wear my Skin's jersey & it seems to be working for their W/L ratio - there is always a silver lining folks - holla!!!

Dancing of the spirit that is! I am so excited for my night out with the girls may not be the full blown night out of years ago, but the precious company is all that matters these days! I am so incredibly blessed to still call three women, whom I have known since grade school, some of my dearest and bestEST (not a Scrabble capable word) friends in the whole wide world. On my desk sits the picture of the four of us from high school has traveled with me since 1997 in the same frame, never a need to put it to the side...LIFE IS TRULY GOOD!

I also get to see my PEANUT & my Doo - I mean, what is a girl to do with all this good stuff going on at the same time?

My love to all - BE BLESSED & have a wonderful, super-duper fantastic weekend!

I hope to have some fun pictures for ya'll on Monday...look out Ashburn - the hottie's (JK) are on their way out - hehehehehehe :)

Maybe Next Year...

Well, my poor little HOKIES were not able to pull off a victory last sad! As the title of this post indicates, there is always next year, but unfortunately - I have been saying that for quite some time now. I'm not really sure what happens to our boys when it comes down to BCS bowl time!

On a brighter note - there was a HYSTERICAL (NEW?) FedEx commercial that aired last night during the game and from what my memory will allow me to recall of the evening - the commercial was the best part of my game watching experience!
I peeked at youtube to see if I could find it, but had no soon as I run across the genius brief office/golf comedy, I will be absolutey sure to put up a link...

As for the aftermath - this pic indicates how I feel today...I am getting OLD people!!! It almost took a crane to pry my tired rear out of bed this morning!!!

"Hey everyone look! Amy's picture is on the INTERNET!"

Ok, so these are probably not the words that you want to hear from a co-worker as you spot him walking over to other co-workers holding a laptop in such a way that you can not see the screen. Of course in the back of my head, I'm like - well $hit - I just caved and signed up for facebook (GEEK) and now somehow they have posted me as a new member or something on the homepage and clearly that could be the only way that this guy has a picture of me...I am a good girl!!!!

As I witness him showing his laptop screen, very convincingly I might add, to everyone around me (who also one by one said "AH, that is Amy - yada, yada, yada"), I am left in panic mode for a few seconds - a few seconds that felt like an ETERNITY!

FINALLY he decides to turn the screen to me so I can see myself...and this is what follows:

As you can imagine, after seeing this, my nervousness quickly stopped; however, I asked him if he had somehow gotten a hold of the wrong glasses or maybe needed to schedule a check-up from the neck up! The comparison on any level, was flattering to say the least...she is 18 - hahaha!

PS - he was unfamiliar with the show "Hero's", which I think added to his excitement about seeing ME online this afternoon; however, he has now told the entire room, where I reside 9-6pm M-F, that she is on the show Heros, as a cheerleader and about her interest in saving the dolphins...and he is now calling me movie star...if he had only seen me yesterday!!! :)

Christmas Eve Night - My encouters with a four year old!

Sitting by the tree and dreaming...

After a wonderful meal and much playing at mom and dads, we all headed off to bed on Christmas Eve - well, almost to bed anyway! Aliyah kindly reminded me after changing into her PJ's and crawling into bed the first time that we had forgotten to leave Santa his milk and cookies. So I got us out of bed and we headed to the kitchen (stopped to take a photo by the tree in the PJ's).

Luckily there were PLENTY of treats, so finding the cookies was not a problem at all; however, when I went to the fridge and picked up the milk carton, I noticed it was considerably LIGHT - ugh! Not knowing if wasting all of the milk would make or break anything on Christmas morning, I snuck over to the sink, or so I thought, and put water in the cup for Santa...The four year old was on her game because she knew exactly what I did and pointed out that we had to leave Santa his milk! I dumped the water out and went back to the fridge and pretended to pour a glass of milk (I probably put about a teaspoon in the mug) and then we were off to leave the treats by the fireplace in the dining room, where Aliyah knew Santa would be making his arrival and departure...

Cookies and Milk - CHECK, now it is back to bed...Aliyah and I crawled into mom and dad's bed and were basically sharing one pillow...I laid there as she tossed and turned like a fish out of water - all along thinking to myself that it was going to be a long night...when all of a sudden there was a whisper "Amy, is Santa here?" I replied, "Well, no silly, Santa does not come until you are asleep." Only to hear "but, I am asleep!" Too cute! I had to point out that she was not asleep...shortly thereafter we were both off the dreamland - Until mom came to take my spot and I went downstairs to take my place on the couch!

With so much excitement about Santa's arrival - would you believe that we had to pull her out of bed on Christmas morning at 9am? :)
